Firwood are pleased to be associated with a recent project to refurbish the swimming pool and diving areas of the Grade II Listed Crystal Palace Swimming Pool. This famous swimming pool forms part of the National Sports Centre which includes the 15,000 seat capacity athletics track used for national and international events.

A failure to identify the environmental impacts of any business will lead to increased costs, a poor public image and possible legislative issues. With this in mind Firwood Paints have implemented an Environmental Management System which has been certified to the ISO 14001 International Standard.

Customer satisfaction surveys are one of the core metrics used at Firwood Paints to ensure we meet the demands of our customers and continue to offer first class service.

Our spring 2009 survey was recently completed and measured customer satisfaction in 12 key areas. Questions included such topics as product quality, delivery service, technical support and customer service.Over 100 customers were invited to take part in the survey and as in previous years we received very positive feedback.

As part of Firwood's policy on sustainable development we have been identifying opportunities to eliminate where possible the use of hazardous materials. The use of lead in paints has been a controversial subject over recent years and Firwood has now removed all lead based products from their product range.

The REACH Regulations (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.) are now well upon us and we are receiving regular requests from customers for information on this subject.

As a downstream user of chemicals Firwood Paints have not had to directly pre register any chemicals under this legislation.

Floor paints don't just have to be applied to horizontal surfaces but can be applied to vertical ones as well. Following the construction of a new outdoor climbing wall in 2007 Bolton Scout Trust approached Firwood for suitable coatings to paint the wall at the Bibbys Farm Outdoor Pursuits Centre.

The company was founded in the early 1950's and started life as a small engineering workshop supplying goods to the local coal fields. Since then the company has expanded its facilities in the North East of England and is now part of the IDEX Corporation.

Firaqua 2602 - Wooden floor paint is a water borne, single pack, polyurethane floor coating that dries to a sheen finish. This product is quick drying and has good abrasion resistance. It is available in the full range of BS 4800 shades.

Two of Firwood's water borne floor seals were recently used as part of the maintenance of wooden floors in Sale, Greater Manchester.

Firaqua 2550 and Firaqua 2530 were chosen by Cofathec Sale PFI Ltd to help restore and protect several wooden floors in properties they own and maintain. These properties include council buildings and the Waterside Arts Centre.

Work on REACH, the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals has now commenced at Firwood Paints to ensure continuity of supply of materials once this new legislation takes effect.

REACH has a number of aims and brings together various EC Directives concerning the handling, use and storage of chemicals.

One of Firwood's products recently made its debut at the Madejski Stadium, home of Reading Football Club. Firgrip 2200 - Anti-slip coating has been used on the edges of steps around the stadium to give highly visible nosings that will provide slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions.

As part of a recent redecoration of their factory, the company chose to reapply Firlex 40 - Chemical resistant anti-slip floor paint.

The purpose of this directive is to prevent or reduce the direct and indirect effects of emissions of VOC's into the environment, mainly into air, and the potential risks to human health.

In December 1941, locomotive number 21C6 rolled out of Eastleigh Works in Hampshire, the latest locomotive to be built by the Southern Railway. She was the latest example of a revolutionary new design of steam locomotive, each example being named after a shipping company serving the South Coast ports. No.21C6 was named after the most famous of all: Peninsular & Oriental S.N.Co (the modern day P&O).

The annual survey is aimed at establishing the satisfaction levels of a cross section of Firwood's customer base against a given set of questions.

Firaqua 2501 - Line marker is a fast drying, water borne acrylic line marker.

It is quick and easy to apply and produces sharply defined edges. This line marker also has good resistance to petrol, diesel, oil and water and excellent resistance to tyre pick up.

One of Firwood's most popular products Firaqua 2700 - Two pack water borne epoxy floor seal, proved to be the preferred floor coating choice for a local organisation recently.

The company wanted to cover a bare concrete work area within its new premises and was looking for a cost effective floor coating.

Firaqua 2506 - Stone floor seal is a colourless, water borne, single pack polyurethane lacquer.

This new floor seal possesses good abrasion resistance and resists staining. It also acts as a dustproofer making cleaning much easier.

Firwood products were recently specified to protect the pipework at a local manufacturing company as part of its maintenance program.

A multicoat paint sequence was specified and involved the use of an anti-corrosive primer, undercoat and a decorative topcoat.
